About Aleuritic Acid

It is obtained from seedlac by saponification and several filtration processes. Aleuritic Acid (9, 10, 16-Trihydroxy Palmitic Acid) is a unique acid containing three hydroxyl groups of which two are of adjacent carbon atoms.

Usage

Aleuritic acid is an excellent starting material for synthesis of

  • Macrocyclic perfumery compounds (ambrettolide, iso-ambrettolide, civetone, dehydiocivetone, exaltone, glucose manoaleuritate and related lactones)
  • Insect Sex Pheromones
  • Pharmaceutical chemicals

Off White crystals, rhombic flakes from hot water, Elongated Parallelogram from Aq. Alcohol

Solubility

Soluble in alcohol, acetone and acetic acid in cold but on warming in ethyl acetate, benzene, chloroform and water.
